Gamelan of
Nommunication by Heri Dono
Gamelan instruments are arranged on a bed of white sand. Simple mechanical devices
play the instruments. A monitor displays minimal images like a shadow play. Primitive but
vigorous sounds of the instruments harmonize with sampled voices, musics and with the
images, to create a coherence within the diversity.
The word "Nommunication" is play on the Japanese words for
"drink" and "communication." (text from the online exhibit)
